Vice President Mustafić held talks with the Chief Prosecutor Serge Brammertz

Vice President of the Parliament of Montenegro Suljo Mustafić met today with Serge Brammertz, Chief Prosecutor of The Hague based International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia 

Vice President Mustafić stated that Montenegro is committed to fulfilling its international obligations and that, in this context, full cooperation is established between its institutions and the International Criminal Court in The Hague, as well as the institutions of neighboring countries in war crimes cases. 

Mustafić also expressed his satisfaction with the signing of the Agreement between the State Prosecutor of Montenegro with the Prosecution of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Serbia on cooperation in combating all forms of serious crimes, including war crimes.

Mustafić stated that the Parliament of Montenegro, within its jurisdiction, is continuously working on legislative solutions to promote the rule of law and ensure full independence of the judiciary and the prosecution, with a special contribution of the amendments to the Constitution that achieved a high level of political consensus. He pointed out that the recent election of the Supreme State Prosecutor in the Parliament is another important step towards strengthening the capacity of the judicial and prosecutorial authorities.

Mustafić added that it was necessary to further enhance ​​legislative framework for the reform of the judicial system in order to achieve its full effectiveness, independence and objectivity in all fields.

Vice President stressed the importance of cooperation between relevant institutions with the International Criminal Court, especially in the full court processing of war crimes that took place in Montenegro or against its citizens, in order to make full institutional confrontation with the past.

Chief Prosecutor Serge Brammertz expressed satisfaction with the cooperation of the International Criminal Court with the relevant institutions in Montenegro, as well as the readiness to promote it in all the fields that are important for the successful processing of war crimes committed in former Yugoslavia

Opinions are exchanged on further legislative reforms in Montenegro, and the role of Parliament in making legal decisions which would mean a full rule of law in all fields.
