Vice President Mustafić visits emigrants in Slovenia

Vice President of the Parliament of Montenegro Mr Suljo Mustafić participated in a traditional annual meeting of emigrants originating from Montenegro, organised in Slovenia by the society “Izvor” from Kranj.

The meeting was opened by Mr Skender Bajrović, Vice President of the society, gathering emigrants originating mostly from Plav and Gusinje. He welcomed participants of the programme, as well as guests and friends from other associations from all over Slovenia.
In his address, Vice President of the Parliament of Montenegro Mr Suljo Mustafić said that Montenegro had made a significant progress in providing legislative framework and strengthening institutions for cooperation with emigrants.
-After we formed a committee in the Parliament of Montenegro, the long-term strategy and law on immigrants have been adopted, while significant expansion of capacity of the Diaspora Administration and the formation of the council are planned, Mr Mustafić said.
 On this occasion, Mr Mustafić emphasised the importance of applying the existing legislation by the interactive relationship between the state and its institutions on one side and immigrants and their organisations on the other.
-Our emigrants carry a great potential which may help to the state in all fields. They have always participated in all positive regulations. Emigrants’ contribution to the restoration of independence is extremely important, but also, they have help their homeland by other activities - in the field of humanitarian work, but primarily through substantial financial resources which they bring and leave every year during their stay in Montenegro. The state is obliged to return the favour, primarily by strengthening institutions for cooperation and through the activities that will help them to preserve their diversity and tradition, reflected in the national, religious and linguistic identity, without assimilation, Mr Mustafić said.
The Vice President urged immigrants to actively participate in the nomination of candidates for the council, as well as in the creation of further joint cooperation policy with the state of Montenegro.
-The society “Izvor” is a great example of organisation, while the diaspora in Slovenia is the bridge that connects the two friendly countries. Montenegro has a strong partner in you and in the state of Slovenia in its European and NATO integration, Mr Mustafić stated.
Mr Miomir Mugša, Montenegro’s Ambassador to Slovenia, also addressed the participants, inviting emigrants for cooperation and partnering relation in the field of culture, education and economy.
In addition, Ambassador Mugoša announced a significant expansion of activities with emigrants through the possibility of opening cultural and informative centre of Montenegro in Slovenia.
A rich cultural, artistic and entertaining programme was prepared on this occasion by volunteers-members and folklore ensemble "Izvor".
The meeting in Kranj was attended by representatives of other associations of citizens originating from Montenegro and living in Slovenia, as well as by Honorary Consul of Montenegro Mr Vojo Kovac.
