President Krivokapić emphasised that Montenegro was in the process of the EU and NATO integration, which it saw as the key foreign policy priorities which would help Montenegro on its path of further democratic maturing.
“I expect that Finland, as a country of the highest democratic standards, will continue to support Montenegro on its path to the European Union”, said Krivokapić.
The Presidents concluded that in spite of the excellent relations between the two countries, it was necessary to consider possibilities of further strengthening cooperation in the fields of mutual interest.
President Krivokapić also met with Kimmo Sasi, rapporteur of the Council of Europe to Montenegro, and informed him that the Parliament of Montenegro had recently adopted amendments to the Constitution regarding the reform of judiciary, as well as that the work of the Working Group dealing with amending legal regulations for the purpose of further strengthening trust in the election process was underway. Rapporteur Sasi deemed as very significant the results that Montenegro had achieved regarding implementation of standards of the Council of Europe, with special highlights on proactive and constructive role of the Parliament of Montenegro.
During the day, President Krivokapić also met with the Chair of the Grand Committee of the Parliament of Finland Ms Miapetra Kumpula, which is dealing with parliamentary oversight of the issues of the common EU policy. It was stated at the meeting that through this Committee the Parliament of Finland played a key role in defining the negotiating positions of Finland in the common EU institutions.
