He said that his visit was even more significant considering that in the end of October Georgia would be having the presidential elections, which, by decision of the president Krivokapić, would be observed by the election observation mission of the OSCE PA. Mr Usupashvili pointed out that participation of PA in the last year’s parliamentary elections in Georgia, when a democratic change of government in this country had happened, had helped with having the election process take place in a democratic atmosphere.
The President Krivokapić stated that, during his presidential mandate, he would advocate having the OSCE PA continue to be an active promoter of democratic values in member states.
“Toward the 40 year anniversary since the OSCE founding, the PA should offer a thorough response and vision to define its position within the total OSCE system”, said Mr Krivokapić. He also added that it was necessary, through intensification of the existing and development of the new activities, to additionally affirm and strengthen the position of the Parliamentary Assembly.
The President Krivokapić emphasised that Georgia was continuously strengthening its democratic capacities, which had been confirmed at the previous elections, and the additional strengthening of the reform processes in this country through the upcoming presidential elections was expected. He expressed belief that the activities regarding the opening of an OSCE mission to Georgia would be launched, which would additionally enhance the total efforts undertaken by this country.
The President and the Speaker agreed that the bilateral relations between Montenegro and Georgia were good, that there were identical foreign policy priorities with regard to the path towards the EU and NATO, as well as that the two countries were facing similar challenges on the path of their full democratic maturing.
“As the EU integration leader in its region, Montenegro is ready to use its experiences to help Georgia, which is soon to sign the European Union Association Agreement”, said Mr Krivokapić.
Today, the President Krivokapić also met with the Delegation of the Parliament of Georgia to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, where they shared opinions on the PA work priorities in the following period.
Mr Krivokapić also met with Mr David Bakradze, one of the main candidates of the presidential elections in Georgia, with whom he talked on the climate of the ongoing presidential election campaign.
During his visit to Georgia, the President Krivokapić will also meet with Mr Mikheil Saakashvili, the President of the State, and Mr Bidzina Ivanishvili, the Prime Minister.
