President Krivokapić says that freedom of media is one of the key indicators of democracy and stability of a society

President of the Parliament of Montenegro received today the founder of the weekly “Monitor” and independent daily “Vijesti” Mr Miodrag Perović, Director Executive of the weekly “Monitor” Ms Milka Tadić-Mijović and Director of the independent daily “Vijesti” Mr Željko Ivanović.

President Krivokapić said that freedom of media was one of the key indicators of democracy and stability of a society.

“With no freedom for media there is no responsible government, and when there is no responsible government there is also no perspective for citizens”, Mr Krivokapić assessed.

The interlocutors agreed that current state at Montenegro’s media scene is worrying, especially in terms of assaults to independent media deemed as critical of the government.

A state has the primary duty of creating atmosphere where media would feel secure, encouraging the freedom of media constantly – because in that manner democratic processes and stability are encouraged as well, President Krivokapić says.

Mr Krivokapić also says that principles which media in Montenegro should adhere to are:  meeting professional standards, development of culture of dialogue and informing the public on the basis of facts.
