Congratulatory message on four decades since the founding of the University of Montenegro

On the occasion of four decades since the founding of the University of Montenegro, President of the Parliament of Montenegro Mr Ranko Krivokapić extended the following congratulatory message to the rector Mr Predrag Miranović, members of the Rectorate, Senate of the University of Montenegro, teaching and scientific staff, as well as all students of the University of Montenegro:

“Esteemed,

In any time, knowledge has been the pillar of Montenegro. That is why the poorest country in the Balkans has been able to be the first to seal the books among the Southern Slavs.

Forming of the University of Montenegro 40 years ago was a historic step forward of the generation of Veljko Milatović, on whose vision the new intellectual forces of Montenegro has grown. The University is part of Montenegrin statehood and the lifeline of its existence. The full autonomy of the University and dedication to knowledge and science is a prerequisite of its strengthening and a different and stable Montenegro. The University holds great responsibility, especially now, in times of shaken morale and ethics, flooded by a sea of technocrats with deficit in real knowledge.

The University has that special power and privilege to weave the universal values into the young people, the ray of light whose flame resists everything, new knowledge and idea. That is precisely why it is of crucial importance to constantly worry about the professionalism and quality of the product of the house of knowledge and culture, because that home produces an intellectual army, which is naturally entitled to take the helm of Montenegrin ship.

Only with the University made up of intellectuals with moral purity and professional and personal integrity can Montenegro have its full dignity and be a country of the future, proud and worthy of its grandiose past.

I believe that the science, as always, will have enough strength and power to respond to numerous challenges and protect itself from the momentary and the fleeting.

On behalf of the Parliament of Montenegro and on my own behalf, I congratulate you on the 40th anniversary of the University of Montenegro. “

Mr Ranko Krivokapić
