“Honorable,
Laborers had been building our homeland Montenegro with their own hands and knowledge. If we compare how much had been created from 1945 to ‘90s, with that in the past 20 years, it is clear that we are not worthy achievements of previous generations.
Reliable partner to Montenegrin development and Euro-Atlantic path is the development and creation of new values. Closeout economy can create momentary illusion of satisfaction, but over time it destroys future of our children.
Society cannot be left entirely to principles of free market. The concept of socialism for the rich and capitalism for the poor we cannot accept, as we cannot accept the logic that the state is only good when it socializes the losses of owners of big capital, but not when it seeks to protect vulnerable populations with social spending and redistribution.
The welfare state and solidarity, which protect the society from the consequences of market deviations and greed, but try to eliminate the causes of such phenomena, are the very basis of our Constitution. Montenegro has survived on the tradition of solidarity.
It is true, we survived tough times, and it is true that we have done a lot together, especially since the restoration of independence, but future victories we can gain only by working.
A challenge to maintain what had been achieved is ahead of Montenegro today, and to be committed to full respect and regard for the rights of workers.
On behalf of the Parliament of Montenegro and my own behalf, I congratulate to you 1 May - International Workers' Day.
Mr Ranko Krivokapić
