President of the Parliament of Montenegro and the OSCE PA Ranko Krivokapić received today in Podgorica members of the Working Group for Enlargement in the Council of the EU (COELA).

During the meeting, it was assessed that the Parliament of Montenegro strongly participated in implementation of reforms and adoption of standards arising from accession negotiation process of our state to the EU.

Members of the Working Group (COELA), as representatives of the EU member states that directly monitor the negotiation process of Montenegro, assessed that our state made progress in the EU integration and that the Role of the Parliament was of key importance.

President Krivokapić pointed out that our Parliament is legislative institution directly involved in the negotiation process compared to all other state candidates. „Institutes such as parliamentary investigation, control hearing and openness of our institution to civil society and public demonstrate vital strength of the Parliament of Montenegro“, pointed out Krivokapić.

At the interest of the Groupmembers on the support of parliamentary parties to accession of Montenegro to NATO, President Krivokapić emphasized that such question is defined as foreign-policy and security priority of Montenegro and it has wide support of MPs in the Parliament.

Additional challenges and requests for huge harmonizing of legislation with the European one are facing the Parliament, and we can count on strong support of the Group and the EU institutions in such process. „So far results of the Parliament show that it has respectable capacity for harmonisation and monitoring of implementation of the legal framework with the EU, which will be done in the future as well“, concluded President Krivokapić.
