After the first meeting held in Vienna, on the initiative of the President Krivokapić as well, at a meeting held in Baku, the Russian and Ukrainian delegations agreed that a special international parliamentary group should be formed that would address a number of important issues with the aim of de-escalation of the situation in crisis areas of Ukraine. Parliamentarians of other OSCE participating States will be members of this group, aside from the Russian and Ukrainian parliamentarians.
President Krivokapić said that the reached agreement was the success of parliamentary diplomacy in the framework of the OSCE PA, which was also an indication of the parliamentary political maturity in dealing with such a sensitive issue as Ukraine crisis.
President Krivokapić, within the OSCE PA plenary session, opened the special debate dedicated to the Ukrainian crisis.
Speaking about the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in resolving serious security issues he said he was pleased that the Parliamentary Assembly had shown commitment and responsibility to deal with the problems, not just talk about them.
″We have shown that the OSCE family in this very difficult time was very holding up cooperation as a principle which was the main pillar of our organization. Parliamentarians have shown political wisdom and willingness to take risk. Citizens elected us for the reason that by carrying the crisis on our shoulders, there be less crisis in their lives,″ Krivokapić said.
