Krivokapić and Eliasson jointly stated that the UN and the OSCE should be further committed to addressing this issue and to contribute through synchronization of their activities to the de-escalation and peaceful ending of the crisis.
Eliasson also praised Montenegro for the constructive approach in resolving regional issues, reminding that regional cooperation as a concept was established by the UN Charter in 1945.
President Krivokapić held today in New York a lecture at Columbia University, one of the five oldest educational institutions in the United States, on "The OSCE and challenges facing the organization in a changing European security environment".
President Ranko Krivokapić reminded that the OSCE demonstrated strong leadership by engaging in a process of de-escalation of tensions and crisis in Ukraine. "We have witnessed that the organization has mobilized all its resources and a wide range of mechanisms for crisis management at its disposal," said Krivokapić.
He pointed out that many of the challenges facing the OSCE are ever increasing threats to the global security, adding that the organization must keep its fundamental principles, which are based on cooperation and peaceful resolution of all open issues.
“In a new era after the end of the Cold War, the OSCE has entered the process of redefining its mission in order to respond efficiently to the needs of the new global political reality.
In numerous attempts and initiatives to reform the position and role of the organization in the new international circumstances, special attention is certainly devoted to Helsinki +40 process. It is a project that should restore the vision and role of the OSCE in the Euro-Atlantic and Euro-Asian security architecture", emphasized President Krivokapić.
He stated that results of this process should mark a new stage of the OSCE development with the goal to promote the organization and deepen its comparative advantages.
During his stay in New York, President Krivokapić met with representatives of the Albanian and Bosniak diaspora. In an open exchange of views, it was jointly stated that it is necessary to work further and in an organized way to strengthen ties with the government of Montenegro and to resolve any open issues in regular communication.
