President Krivokapić expressed his gratitude for the continued support that the United States of America provided to Montenegro with regard to the strengthening of democratic processes and the rule of law in the country. He stressed that Montenegro must in the best way understand messages from the NATO Summit in Wales, where significant progress of our country in the process of joining the Alliance was recognized. He also pointed out that an invitation to join NATO next year, through the intensification of necessary reforms, was a key priority for the state and a catalyst for further democratization of Montenegrin society as a whole.
Krivokapić and Nuland agreed that further reforms are a necessary condition for accession to the NATO Alliance. The meeting was also attended by Brian Hoyt, US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State.
President of the Parliament, Ranko Krivokapić, met in the House of Representatives with Congressman Doug Lamborn, the Chairperson of the Congressional Montenegro Caucus.
″Formation of the Montenegro Caucus, during my previous visit to the United States Congress, was the event of great importance, followed by concrete support of the Congress to Montenegro's membership in NATO″, Krivokapić said and added that Congressman Lamborn has had tremendous merit for it, wherefore Montenegro experienced him a great friend. Congressman Lamborn has expressed optimism about Montenegro receiving calls for NATO in 2015.
Krivokapić met in the Senate with Senator Ben Cardin, who is also the Chairman of the Commission on Cooperation and Security in Europe, also known as the US Helsinki Commission.
President Krivokapić and Cardin in addition to discussing the situation in Montenegro, exchanged views on the political and security situation in Ukraine and the Middle East. Cardin gave credit to Krivokapić for the successful chairmanship of the OSCE PA, expressing expectation that in his new position as OSCE PA Honorary President and coordinator of the Group for Cooperation of Russian and Ukrainian parliamentarians, he would continue to contribute to the goals of the OSCE.
President Krivokapić had meetings with Senator Roger Wicker and Congressman Robert Aderholt, and visited German Marshall Fund, where he spoke to the President, Karen Donfried.
President continues his visit to USA with meetings in Pentagon and Congress, and will participate in the Parliamentary Intelligence-Security Forum organized by the American Congress.
