Honorary President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly and the President of the Parliament of Montenegro, Ranko Krivokapić, is staying in Geneva, where the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Autumn Meeting is being held.
President Emeritus Krivokapić met in Geneva with the Speaker of the State Duma, Sergey Naryshkin, on the occasion of the Ukrainian crisis and continuation of activities of the OSCE PA Vienna Group, which started with its work in April 2014, chaired by Krivokapić. They agreed that it was necessary, immediately after the parliamentary elections in Ukraine, to continue the work of the Vienna Group consisting of parliamentary delegations of Ukraine and the Russian Federation, as for the parliamentary diplomacy to give its tangible contribution to the resolution of the Ukrainian crisis.
The important role the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly had in the dialogue was emphasized during the discussion, necessary for de-escalation of the crisis in Ukraine, as well as the necessity for the Vienna Group to deal with many issues of vital importance for the daily lives of citizens in a torn territory of Ukraine.
Vice-President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, Doris Barnett (Germany) and the OSCE PA Ambassador, Andreas Nothelle also participated in the meeting.
Speaker Naryshkin used this occasion to open up the topic of bilateral relations between the Russian Federation and Montenegro, in light of sanctions imposed by the European Union against the Russian Federation, joined by Montenegro.
