At the meeting, attended also by US Ambassador to Montenegro Sue K. Brown, President Krivokapić and Mr Yee have confirmed that Montenegro and United States of America have friendly relations, and that those relations are in the stage of intensifying, with the aim of achieving Montenegro’s strategic priority – full-fledged NATO membership.
At the meeting with US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Mr Yee, President of the Parliament Mr Ranko Krivokapić said that Montenego had clearly defined strategic priorities, emphasising that full-fledged NATO membership was the top priority: “Montenegro has clear objectives in front of itself, whose fulfilment means strengthening the rule of law, strong fight against corruption and organised crime. Hard work towards achieving these standards, together with full strength of institutions, will make Montenegro be the last piece of Mediterranean coast under NATO protection, which means stability, safety and peace for our citizens and the region”, noted Mr Krivokapić.
During the conversation with President Krivokapić, US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Mr Hoyt Yee said that USA would continue strongly to advocate and support Montenegrin path towards the Alliance. He assessed that Montenegro’s advance on that path would depend mostly on its efficiency in meeting standards for full-fledged membership.
President of the Parliament of Montenegro Mr Ranko Krivokapić have informed Mr Yee about ongoing activities and set of law that are or will be soon in the parliamentary procedure, which means concrete steps towards meeting the requirements for NATO membership.
