OSCE PA seminars that were held in Moscow and today in Washington, and the one to be held in Stockholm next year, bring together parliamentarians, prominent representatives of the international community, public administration, think tanks and other representatives of civil society in order to exchange opinions on the future of the OSCE, i.e. principles and guidelines for its further action within the security community that is inevitably facing increasing challenges.
In today's seminar, which was marked by a special discussion on the Ukrainian crisis, it was assessed that it was necessary to review the existing principles as well as to work on defining new principles which would amend and at the same time ensure the implementation of those already defined by Helsinki Final Act. Also, the need was pointed out for further strengthening the OSCE as the only forum for the discussion on security issues, which has the rule of consensus that the each of the 57 countries has the equal right to protect its rights.
On this occasion, President Krivokapić stated the following: "When it is not possible to reach an agreement on the application of the principle, it is sometimes necessary to take a step back and even achieve an agreement on common interests for the future. The security crisis in Europe caused by conflicts in Ukraine, undermines the security architecture of the OSCE region, and further deepens the already existing economic crisis".
During this visit to Washington, President Krivokapić spoke with Senator John McCain who is in charge of the Committee on Defense and Security of the US Senate. Krivokapić and McCain primarily discussed the current developments in the OSCE region and the role that the OSCE PA Vienna Group led by President Krivokapić had in continuing the dialogue between the Russian and the Ukrainian Parliament.
In addition, interlocutors exchanged opinions on the activities of Montenegro in meeting the requirements for obtaining the membership in the NATO Alliance.
During the visit to Washington, President Krivokapić heldd talks with Senators Chris Murphy, Roger Wicker and Benjamin Cardin.
