President of the Parliament of Montenegro Mr Ranko Krivokapić received today Mr Didier Reynders, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Belgium.
The interlocutors pointed out good bilateral relations between Montenegro and the Kingdom of Belgium, at all levels.
President of the Parliament Mr Ranko Krivokapić pointed out that, for Montenegro, the Kingdom of Belgium was an important partner both in bilateral sense and as the state-political centre of the European Union. During the conversation, President Krivokapić informed H.E. Mr Reynders on the intensive work of Montenegrin Parliament regarding harmonisation of our legislation to the European acquis. “In particular, I am referring to the set of anti-corruption laws and all new legal solutions that signify strengthening of institutions, primarily greater independence of judiciary, which, with the necessary accountability, should also imply strengthening of the rule of law”, said Mr Krivokapić. The President of the Parliament emphasised that the Parliament was working hard on building a better system of the election legislation, in order to regain and strengthen trust in the election process.
Deputy Prime Minister Mr Didier Reynders said that assessments of the EU institutions in their regular reports on Montenegro were positive, but he also pointed out the need for results in implementation of the laws, because the rule of law was the key priority in Montenegro’s path toward the EU and NATO integration. “The Kingdom of Belgium provides strong support to Montenegrin process of the NATO and EU accession, and you can count on our help”, said Mr Reynders.
