President of the Parliament of Montenegro, Mr Ranko Krivokapić, met today with the Foreign Minister of the Republic of Letonia, Mr Edgars Rinkēvičs.
President of the Parliament of Montenegro, Mr Ranko Krivokapić and the Foreign Minister of the Republic of Letonia, Mr Edgars Rinkēvičs, talked about relations between Montenegro and Latvia, with a focus on cooperation between two parliaments. Mr Krivokapić and Mr Rinkēvičs agreed that parliaments as institutions in contemporary democracies had an important role in the democratic process in society.
Mr Krivokapić pointed out that the Parliament of Montenegro has improved its mechanisms of work through parliamentary hearings and involvement of NGOs in the work of committees. Mr Rinkēvičs said that the progress of Montenegro towards the EU was impressive, as well as the dynamics of the negotiations of our country.
Mr Krivokapić and Mr Rinkēvičs concluded that the process of harmonization of Montenegrin legislation with the EU acquis was demanding, and noted that the achievement of the rule of law, combating organized crime, and corruption were key to further reform path of Montenegro.
