Day two of visit by President of Parliament of Montenegro to Hungary

On day two of the visit to Hungary, where President of the Parliament of Montenegro Mr Ranko Krivokapić is participating in the Spring Session upon the invitation of President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly Mr Michael Turner, Mr Krivokapić met Speaker of the National Assembly of Hungary Mr László Kövér, Deputy Prime Minister Mr Zsolt Semjén and Minister of Defence Mr Csaba Hende.  

At the meetings, the interlocutors stated undoubtedly friendly relations of the two countries, developed bilateral cooperation at all levels, with a special emphasis on parliamentary dimension and the separate issue of full-fledged membership of Montenegro to the NATO Alliance.

Speaker of the National Assembly of Hungary Mr László Kövérb said that from their point of view there were no obstacles for Montenegro’s membership to the NATO Alliance, and said that he was convinced that Montenegro would, by the next Ministerial meeting, fulfil the remaining expectations. Mr Kövér stressed that the invitation to Montenegro for full-fledged membership was important from several aspects, particularly from the aspect of security stabilisation of the  Balkans, and insisted on individual valuation of achievements in the integration process.

In talks with Deputy Prime Minister Mr Zsolt Semjén, with repeated strong support to invitation for membership of Montenegro, the participants voiced interest for activities conducted within the OSCE, for the purpose of overcoming the Ukrainian crisis and impact of the crisis to security situation in the Western Balkans. They jointly assessed that Montenegro’s membership to the NATO would strongly contribute to decreasing the risk of destabilisation of the region.

During the talk with Minister of Defence Mr Csaba Hende, they highlighted great contribution that Hungary made in the reform of certain security segments of the Army of Montenegro as well as successfulness of cooperation in Afghanistan of the Montenegrin and Hungarian Army within the joint unit. Montenegrin soldiers, who decently continued the tradition of their ancestors in peace operations, were fully praised.
