Congratulatory message on the occasion of 25 years since the publication of the first issue of weekly “Monitor”

On the occasion of 19 October - 25 years since the publication of the first issue of weekly “Monitor”, President of the Parliament of Montenegro extended a congratulatory message to founders, editors, journalists and readers of this weekly.

Esteemed,

Weekly “Monitor” confronted the sword by a feather a quarter of century ago. In the time of darkness, abyss and general social decadence.  In those years, those who stood side by side making the anti-war movement could feed their souls and derive energy from the copyright texts of “Monitor” journalists.

History has no good measures for those who prevent major damages.  If you just deleted “Monitor” from political, social and media scene in the last 25 years, you would get the image of blackness and single-minded media tone, dictated from the cabinets of warmongering and hegemonic projects.  The anti-war movement would not be so strong if it had not been for “Monitor”.

All of us pertaining to the right side of history are deeply emotionally connected to “Monitor”.  The values that we fought for back than - civil, independent and Euro-Atlantic Montenegro have become historic victories of Montenegro.

The time has changed and brought new challenges.  The outsiders have been ruling the media scene of Montenegro.  And even now, as back then, it is hard to read the truth, and professional journalists are hard to find.  Back then, representatives of the public word were target of hegemonic projects and nationalism, today they are target of corruption clans and large capital of questionable origin.

Wishing “Monitor” to remain the permanent democratic institution of Euro-Atlantic Montenegro, and deeply respecting your struggle for free and professional journalism, I wish you, that event when your feathers make a mistake, you preserve the faith in full commitment of Monitor to free, democratic and socially fair Montenegro.

Respectfully,

Ranko Krivokapić
