The interlocutors stressed the importance of support of the United States of America to Montenegro’s membership in NATO, and assessed that Montenegro must continue more intensely and resolutely with the reform process it has begun. Senator Murphy said that we could count on the support of the United States, expressing confidence that Montenegro would receive expected invitation for membership to the NATO Alliance in December.
Regarding the current developments in Montenegro, Senator Murphy said that dialogue must be lead inside the Parliament of Montenegro, voicing expectancy that Montenegro, as the next member of NATO, would have capacity to implement fair and free elections.
“This has been a very important friendship for me in the last few years, and I think that I have become one of the strongest supporters of Montenegro here in Congress, thanks to contacts and friendship with President Krivokapić. I was really glad to hear the news from the White House, that they support Montenegro’s membership in NATO, to which I called for two years, and it really makes me happy to see you at the finish line. I will continue to talk with my friends in Europe in the upcoming moths, to make sure that they are as enthusiastic as the United States of America about Montenegro’s accession to NATO. But this is really the result of visits such as this one, which have built a friendship between Montenegro and the United States of America”, Senator Murphey said.
Alongside a series of bilateral meetings held with congressmen and senators in the State Department, Mr Krivokapić also took part in the Parliamentary Intelligence and Security Forum.
Let us remind that Krivokapić used the opportunity yesterday to invite once again from Washington all political subjects to lead a dialogue inside the Parliament of Montenegro.
