During his one-day visit to Brussels, President Krivokapić spoke with Commissioner Mr Johannes Hahn on the current political developments in Montenegro. A special accent during the meeting was placed on tomorrow's beginning of a parliamentary dialogue initiated by President Krivokapić. During the conversation, President Ranko Krivokapić and Commissioner Hahn agreed that H.E. Mr Mitja Drobnič, Head of the EU Delegation to Montenegro, should attend the meeting of presidents of political entities represented in the Parliament of Montenegro, scheduled for tomorrow.
The interlocutors assessed that the parliament was a genuine source of democracy, and that dialogue among political entities should fulfil the basic goal - free, fair and unchallenged parliamentary elections They pointed out, during the talk, that the period until parliamentary elections was very important and that it should be used for eliminating all doubts and disputes regarding the electoral process by serious dialogue and joint efforts. They welcomed the electoral legislation and emphasised the importance of implementing it by subjects responsible for its implementation, particularly in the part of electronic identification of voters.
During his meeting with Commissioner Hahn, President Krivokapić emphasised that Montenegro had carefully analysed the last EU Progress Report, being an objective presentation of the state of play and offering guidelines that our state should undertake on its path of democratisation and strengthening of institutions, which ultimately is the fulfilment of the obligations towards the EU integration. The rule of law and continuation of reforms will lead to greater maturity of the state and society.
Today in Brussels, President Krivokapić had a meeting with President of the Belgian Chamber of Representatives Mr Siegfried Bracke. They emphasised good relation of Montenegro and Belgium as well as increasingly comprehensive cooperation of the two states,
During the conversation of Mr Krivokapić and Mr Bracke, they stressed that establishment of the Special Public Prosecutor's Office and all efforts made in that segment were encouraging in the part of strengthening the fight against corruption and organised crime.
The interlocutors concluded that our state had been achieving a continuous progress on the path towards the EU, but currently it is expected from Montenegro to do more in the implementation of the adopted laws and achieving measurable results. They underlined a new approach that the EC had towards candidates for membership with regard to comparative progress reports, which put an additional stress on the obligation of Montenegro and its institutions to use the following period for producing more measurable and credible results in the key fields.
Presidents Krivokapić and Mr Bracke emphasised that there was room for development of cooperation between the two states and the following period would be devoted to expanding the content of cooperation. President Mr Siegfried Bracke said that Montenegro may always count on friendly and partnering support of Belgium in the EU accession processes and increasingly certain membership in NATO.
