President of the Parliament of Montenegro Mr Darko Pajović spoke at the Interparliamentary Conference for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) and Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP), which is being held in Bratislava today. Mr Pajović had a presentation during the debate on the topic: “The EU as a global player: Looking for an Effective Multilateral diplomacy model”.
The President of the Montenegrin Parliament reminded the present that negative experiences regarding the pacification of conflicts in the South-Eastern Europe have shown that there is no stability in Europe without ensuring lasting stability in the Balkans.
- For that reason, I would like to emphasise that continuation of the enlargement policy is of great importance, as the best tool for strengthening regional cooperation and reconciliation in the Western Balkans, without the incorporation of which the EU is not complete. Therefore, the enlargement policy being one of the priorities of the Slovak presidency is of great importance for both - the enlargement countries and the very idea of the EU enlargement. This confirms that one of the EU most successful policies has not stopped in this time challenging for the EU, Mr Pajović said.
He added that it is important for credibility of enlargement policy that states which are undergoing the enlargement process, and which are fulfilling their obligations successfully, make progress in that process.
