Chairperson and members of the Security and Defence Committee Mr Mevludin Nuhodžić, Mr Borislav Banović, Mr Vasilije Lalošević and MP Goran Danilović participated today in the conference “Strategic Communication of Euro-Atlantic Integration Process", held in Podgorica, organised by the Center for Democratic Transition (CDT).
During the panel “Role of the Parliament and Political Parties in Communication of Euro-Atlantic Integration Process”, various aspects of Montenegrin membership to NATO were discussed, with special reference to informing of citizens on implication of Euro-Atlantic integration process and effects of full-fledged membership to NATO Alliance as well as the role of the Parliament and political parties in that field.
It was jointly assessed that additional attention should be paid to objective and broader informing of citizens on Montenegro’s path to NATO, through open dialogue, including arguments for and against, in the spirit of mutual understanding and tolerance. In addition, the panellists agreed on the importance of Parliament’s role in the process, and the need for conducting more intensive discussions in the plenary and in the working bodies meetings on the concerned topic.
During the conference, topics such as “Media and NATO integration” and “The international community's view of the relationship between Montenegro and NATO" were discussed.
