Delegation of the Security and Defence Committee participated in the Conference of the US-Adriatic Charter titled “Regional parliamentary cooperation for strengthening security and quick integration into the Euro-Atlantic institutions”, in Tirana today.
The keynote speakers at the meeting were the following: Mr Ilir Meta, Speaker of the Albanian Parliament; Mr Ditmir Bushati, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Albania; Ms Mimi Kodheli, Minister of Defence; as well as the Ambassador of the United States of America to the Republic of Albania, H.E. Alexander Arvizu. Major General Viktor Berdo of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Albania also spoke on the topic of the Conference.
In continuation, they spoke on the current issues regarding the NATO enlargement process to the Western Balkans, and the mechanisms of strengthening the parliamentary cooperation aimed at promotion of implementing reforms in the security and defence sector, as well as in other areas.
During the discussion, Chairperson of the Security and Defence Committee Mr Mevludin Nuhodžić pointed out the importance of uniting capacities, knowledge and resources, and harmonising and planning of activities within the regional cooperation, as well as cooperation at the domestic and international level, estimating that it represented the only way for keeping security and stability of our countries.
“That is the only way that all the countries in the region could earn the full-fledged membership in the relevant international organisations and hold the image of credible partners in the community of democratic countries”, concluded Mr Nuhodžić.
The host of the conference was Committee on National Security of the Albanian Parliament, within the presiding of the Republic of Albania over the US-Adriatic Charter.
Apart from the representatives of the Parliament of Montenegro and the host country, the MPs from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo and Macedonia also participated in the Conference.
