Participation of members of the Security and Defense Committee in the workshop in Vienna - the first day

On the first day of the workshop "Building Integrity" which was organized by NATO in cooperation with the NATO Parliamentary Assembly and the Global Organization of Parliamentarians Against Corruption (GOPAC), members of the Security and Defense Committee had an opportunity to learn about the mechanisms and tools that NATO Building integrity Programme-BI provides as an answer to the challenges faced by the countries in the fight against corruption. 

The first day of the workshop was focused on sharing experiences and best practices in the fight against corruption, as well as on finding effective solutions and mechanisms for building and strengthening the integrity. Also, during the presentation, it was pointed out to the importance of the rule of law, building integrity in the democratic institutions, and the necessity of having a strong ethical conduct regime as effective means for combating corruption. In addition, central role was presented that parliamentarians play in establishing balance between public accountability and the need for secrecy in control of defense and security sector.

The aim of the workshop is to raise awareness of the presence of corruption in the defense and security sector as well as finding effective ways of action in the fight against corruption through increased transparency and building integrity.
