In the framework of the Luxembourg Presidency of the EU, the Interparliamentary Conference on Stability, Economic Coordination and Governance in the European Union was held in Luxembourg, on 9 and 10 November.
The conference covered several topics, such as: Social Dimension of Economic Governance, Parliamentary Scrutiny of the European Economic
Governance, Fair Tax Competition and Growth and the Economic and Monetary Union (EMU).
The following, inter alia, took part as panellists and speakers: Mr Xavier Bettel, Prime Minister of Luxembourg, Mr Nicolas Schmit, Minister of Labour, Employment and the Social and Solidarity Economy in the Government of Luxembourg, Mr Roberto Gualtieri, Chairperson of the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs of the European Parliament, Mr Ambroise Fayolle, Vice-President of the EIB and others.
Following the introductory remarks by panellists, the debate among participants of the conference was opened. The representatives of committees in charge of economy of EU member states and European Parliament participated in the debate, and Mr Aleksandar Damjanović, Chairperson of the Committee on Economy, Finance and Budget, also took part in the debate - on behalf of the Parliament of Montenegro. MP Damjanović stressed, among other things, that investment plans within the EU, as well as the plan of strengthening EMU by 2025, proposed by heads of five of European institutions, during its application should include a focus on the continuation of the EU enlargement policy, and include the candidate countries as well. In line with proposed Rules of Procedure of the Conference, Montenegro has officially become an observer state of the Conference, as a candidate country for the EU membership.
