At the thirteenth meeting held today, Committee on European integration members had an opportunity to speak with new Director General of the EC Enlargement Directorate Mr Christian Danielsson.
In his addressing to the members, Mr Danielsson pointed out that in the process of European integration, the most important thing was to identify certain elements that would bring the progress. The importance of defining the framework, which would provide credibility, dedication and principles was emphasised, primarily relating the rule of law which is the essence of the most demanding chapters 23 and 24, which are subjected to new approach in terms of enlargement policy, in the way that these two chapters are considered from the very beginning of the negotiation process. Another important element is economic management providing development and strong economic structure as a basis for reform process, competitiveness and support to the European integration process. Progress of a country on a membership path depends, certainly, on democratisation of institutions, particularly the Parliament, but also on degree of human rights respect and regional cooperation, new Director General of the EC Enlargement Directorate said. At the end, he pointed out that the speed of negotiations would depend on the speed of adopting reforms.
Within the second item of the Agenda, the amendment to the proposal for the Resolution on Manner, Quality and Dynamics of the Integration Process of Montenegro to the European Union was unanimously adopted; the amendment is related to stronger role of the Committee on European Integration in the negotiation process with the EU, by precise definition of its role in the very process.
