Visit of the Committee on European Integration to the Parliament of the Republic of Croatia ended

Delegation of the Committee on European Integration, composed of the following: Mr Slaven Radunović, Ms Nada Drobnjak, Mr Predrag Sekulić, Mr Šefkija Murić, Mr Srđa Popović, Mr Zoran Srzentić, and Mr Koča Pavlović paid a two-day official visit to the Republic of Croatia. 

On the second working day, the Committee Delegation met the Assistant Minister for Regional Development and EU Funds Ms Helga Bubanović Devčić, who presented EU funds and problems which may occur during the preparation for programmes and accreditation within IPA system, implementation of which had started in 2009. She pointed out that careful approach was necessary within the preparation of budgetary and big structural projects for which was necessary to provide comprehensive programme documentation. She emphasised that in some situations it was necessary to request implementation of big projects in stages for the purpose of more successful absorption of funds  within those. During the meeting, the conversation was focused on projects implemented by Croatia in the field of protection of environment and traffic.

Afterwards, the Delegation met the former Prime Minister of the Croatian Government, MP Jadranka Kosor, speaking with her on challenges that Croatia was facing with during the negotiation process in the period when Ms Kosor was heading the executive power. MP Kosor pointed out the importance of hardworking in terms of creating the state of justice, strengthening institutions and fight against crime and corruption. She highlighted the procedure of amending the Constitution of the Republic of Croatia – aimed at strengthening the independence of judiciary and regulation of banking sector

During the day, the Delegation also met Chairperson of the Committee on Judiciary Mr Josip Kregar and Chairperson of the Legislation Committee of the Croatian Parliament Ms Ingrid Antičević Marinović. The policy of opening negotiation chapters 23 and 24 was positively assessed in the first part of the negotiation process as well as chapters including areas which, even not precisely determined by European law, include serious reforms aimed at creating efficient and independent judiciary.

The Delegation attended the presentation of experiences of Croatian municipality Kamanje in promoting and financing cross-border  cooperation from the EU funds.
