Members of the Committee on European Integration today visited the Municipality of Kotor, where they held a debate with students of grammar school “Kotor” and a meeting with representatives of the Municipality.
At the debate, participated by students who attended courses of European Integration and Sociology, MPs spoke on the integration process and role of the Committee, and on the importance of negotiations as a catalyst for social reforms and boosting economy. Question of the participants were related to the most important positive but also negative aspects of Montenegro’s membership to the European Union, the influence of negotiations on the safety of work of security services, the relation of Norway with the EU, a referendum in the United Kingdom on the future in the EU, and challenges in chapter 27 - Environment.
The meeting in the Municipality of Kotor was focused on administrative and technical capacities of the Kotor municipality, and activities aimed at strengthening international cooperation, through twinning of towns and concreate cross-border projects. Representative of the Municipality of Kotor informed parliamentarians about results achieved through various projects, including those for sustainable waste management in the cross-border region Montenegro - BiH, sustainable mobility in a number of towns (Kotor, Dubrovnik, Piran, Umag, Novigrad and Lopan), waste composting in municipalities of Kotor, Budva, Tivat and Herceg Novi, and cooperation aimed at the conservation and management of fortresses and military areas in the Adriatic.
Aside from President of the Municipality of Kotor Mr Aleksandar Stjepčević, the meeting in the Municipality was attended by: Mr Tvrtko Crepulja, Vice President of the Municipality, Ms Duška Banićević, Secretary of the Local Assembly, Ms Snežana Macić-Stanaćev, Advisor to the President for Legal Issues, Ms Jelena Stjepčević, Coordinator of the Office for International Cooperation as well as representatives of non-governmental organisations: Ms Ljilja Radunović from the NGO Eco centre “Delfin” and Ms Biljana Gligorić, from the NGO “Expeditio”.
Delegation of Committee on European Integration consisted of: Deputy Chairperson of the Committee Ms Marija Maja Ćatović and members of the Committee Ms Azra Jasavić and Mr Obrad Mišo Stanišić.
