Second regional meeting of parliamentary bodies competent for human rights and rights of the child with the ombudspersons for children of regional countries – Network CRONSEE

Danilovgrad, 21 – 22 January 2014

Committee on Human Rights and Freedoms of the Parliament of Montenegro, in cooperation with the Delegation of the Parliament of Montenegro to Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and  institution of the Protector of Human Rights and Freedoms of Montenegro, and with the support of UNICEF Office to Montenegro, will organise the Second regional meeting of parliamentary bodies competent for human rights and rights of the child with the ombudspersons for children of regional countries – Network CRONSEE, on the topic: “Rights of the Child: Promotion of the Position of a Child Aimed at Protection from All Forms of Exploitation”.

The Second regional meeting will be held in the Regional School of Public Administration (ReSPA), Danilovgrad, on 21 and 22 January 2014.

The aim of the meeting is exchange of views and best practices regarding the protection of a child. The meeting will be focused on determining aims and directions for further inter-parliamentary cooperation of national institutions dealing with protection of human rights and rights of a child. The meeting is organised as a continuation of gatherings of parliamentary bodies from regional countries, which have started in the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, having in mind that the Joint statement adopted at the end of the meeting highlights that one of the priority fields in the period to come should be the protection of children’s rights, particularly protection from child pornography and cyber-criminal.   

The activities which parliamentary working bodies competent for human rights and rights of the child and ombudspersons for children of regional countries are undertaking for the purpose of protecting rights of a child and promotion of the position of a child aimed at protection from all forms of exploitation will be presented during the Second regional meeting

At the Second regional meeting the following will be presented: Report on Child Begging in Montenegro, Report on Sexual Abuse of Children in Montenegro, Report on Abuse of Children via Internet in Montenegro as well as Report on results of conducted researches on protection of children against exploitation, done by the institution of the Protector of Human Rights and Freedoms within the regional project “Promotion of the Position of a Child Aimed at Protection from All Forms of Exploitation” in cooperation with members of CRONSEE network and regional ombudspersons, with the support of the Save the Children and the Committee on Human Rights and Freedoms which considered the concerned reports and adopted the relevant conclusions which were submitted to the competent ministries for further proceedings. Additionally, activities of the UNICEF Office to Montenegro in respect of protection of rights of the child will be presented.

During the Regional meeting, the data of the Committee of the Parties to the Lanzarote Convention of the Council of Europe will be presented by Montenegrin representative at the Committee. During the working session, the progress in these fields will be discussed, and regional countries will have an opportunity to exchange experiences. 

In addition to members of the Committee of Human Rights and Freedoms of the Parliament of Montenegro, Delegation of the Parliament of Montenegro to PACE and representative of the institution of the Protector of Human Rights and Freedoms of Montenegro, the following will participate in the Second Regional meeting: representatives of regional parliamentary working bodies based in Montenegro that deal with these issues (UNICEF, OEBS and European Union Delegation to Montenegro).
