Committee on Human Rights and Freedoms holds its 53rd meeting

Committee on Human Rights and Freedoms, at the 53rd meeting in the extended composition that was held today, considered the Proposal for the Law on Amendments to the Law on Minority Rights and Freedoms and the Proposal for the Law on Prohibition of Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities, submitted by the Government of Montenegro

Due to the result of voting (three votes "for", three "against" and one "abstained"), the Proposal for the Law on Amendments to the Law on Minority Rights and Freedoms did not obtain majority required at the Committee meeting and the Committee proposes to the Parliament not to be adopted.

Taking into account the text of the Proposal for the Law on Prohibition of Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities, the wording of which was significantly amended in comparison to the draft text, as well as dissatisfaction of persons with disabilities, members of the Committee concluded that the Ministry of Human and Minority Rights should be given a period of seven days, during which they would work to improve the text of the Proposal. It was also demanded that an opinion of the representative of non-governmental organizations that work in these areas, should be submitted. In this regard, the Chairman of the Committee will send the request to the Collegium of the Presidentof the Parliament of Montenegro that this Proposal for the Law be considered as the last item of the agenda of the Seventh Sitting of the First Ordinary Session of the Parliament of Montenegro.
