The meeting is organized by the European Parliament with the support of the Directorate for relations with national parliaments, with the topic "Situation in the Mediterranean and the need for a holistic approach to migration".
Two sessions were envisaged with the agenda: "The role of Justice and Home Affairs Agencies in the hot spot concept" and "Addressing migration at the national and local level".
The participants of the meeting will be addressed, among others, by representatives of the European Asylum Support Office (EASO), European Union's Judicial Cooperation Unit (Eurojust), European Police Office (Europol), European Agency for the Management of Operational Cooperation at the External Borders of the Member States of the European Union (Frontex) and the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA).
The aim of the Interparliamentary meeting is the exchange of views between the members of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs of the European Parliament and members of national parliaments on migration, asylum and border policies.
The opinions exchanged during the meeting will be forwarded to the co-rapporteurs of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs, Ms Roberta Metsola and Ms Kashetu Kyenge, contribution to the development of the Strategic report on the situation in the Mediterranean and the need for a a holistic approach to migration. Proceeding from the current debates on EU policies on migration, asylum and borders, current policies of the European Union in this field will be discussed at the meeting, and during the preparation of the report co-rapporteurs will establish a set of recommendations for improvement of the situation and overcoming of existing problems.
Representative of the Committee on Political System, Judiciary and Administration, MP Šefkija Murić, will also participate at the Interparliamentary meeting in Brussels.
