Delegation of the Committee on Human Rights and Freedoms to participate in the Conference in Sarajevo

Topic: “The role of commissions in parliamentary oversight of the human rights field”

Delegation of the Committee on Human Rights and Freedoms, composed of Mr Halil Duković, Chairperson of the Committee, and Mr Rešad Sijarić, member of the Committee, will participate in the Third regional conference of parliamentary bodies in charge of human and minority rights and gender equality, to be held in Sarajevo, on 23 and 24 November 2015.

Third regional conference represents the continuation of gatherings of parliamentary bodies in charge of human and minority rights which started on 29 ad 30 October 2013 in the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia and continued on 21 and 22 January 2014 in the Regional School of Public Administration in Danilovgrad. The Conference is organised by the Joint Committee on Human Rights of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina with the support of the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Topic of the Conference is: “The role of commissions in parliamentary oversight of the human rights field”.

Third regional conference will be opened by: Ms Borjana Krišto, Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mr Ognjen Tadić, Speaker of the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina and a representative of the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

During the first session “Parliamentary oversight of the institutions in charge of human rights”, participants from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Montenegro, Serbia, Slovenia and Macedonia will present experiences of their parliaments in this field.

The session “The role of commissions in parliamentary oversight - drivers of changes” will give an opportunity to parliamentarians to exchange opinions on how parliaments can contribute to better implementation of policies and laws from the human rights field, how to improve parliamentary control of the executive power and institutions from the human rights field an what is the role of NGOs and human rights activists.

The afternoon discussion will be focused on anti-discrimination laws and regional novelties in legal and judicial systems in this field.

At the very end of the Third regional conference, conclusions will be adopted.
