Representatives of the Committee on Human Rights and Freedom Service of the Parliament of Montenegro participate in the seminar : “Protection of Human Rights and Position of Women and Children”, which is held in Brussel, on 14th and 15th November 2012. Seminar is organised by the Unit for Western Balkans Parliament Relations of the Directorate –General for External Policies of the European Parliament as part of the Support Program to the Western Balkan Parliaments.
On the first working day of the Seminar, introductory remarks of Mr. Eduard Kukan, Chairman of the Delegation for relations with Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Kosovo and Montenegro, member of Committee on Foreign Affairs and Subcommmittee on Human Rights, were followed by sessions titled “Role and Position of the European Parliament in the field of human rights and human rights in Western Balkan”, “Protection of Minority Rights in the EU and Western Balkan”, “The Role of Civil Society in Protection of Human Rights“. High representatives of the Europen Parliament, Mr. Eduard Kukan, Mr. Ulrike Lunacek, member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and Cvetko Stantič, member of European Economic and Social Committee had presentations on these topics.
Comprehensive presentations of the policy of the European Parliament in subject fields and given grades on its condition in the Western Balkans countries were followed by discussion where MPs from the Western Balkans countries presented the state of human rights in their countries, position of minority groups, cooperation with civil sector and problems that they were facing with. All participants of the Seminar unanimously agreed that exchange of experience with MPs of the European Parliament was very important as well as mutual cooperation between Parliaments of Western Balkans on the path towards the European union.
In addition to representatives of the Committee on Human Rights and Freedom Service of Montenegro, the Seminar is attended by representatives of the parliaments of Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania, Kosovo, Croatia and Macedonia.
