Member of the Committee on Human Rights and Freedoms to take part in the Seminar “From words to deeds - towards the integration of Roma”

Podgorica, 05 July 2016

MP Mr Zoran Miljanić, member of the Committee on Human Rights and Freedoms, will take part in the Seminar “From words to deeds - towards the integration of Roma”, which will take place in hotel “Best Western” in Podgorica, on 5 July 2015, starting at 9:00h.

The Seminar is organised by the European Union Delegation to Montenegro, in cooperation with the Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations (DG NEAR).
The participants in the Seminar will be: representatives of state and local institutions, ambassadors of the EU member states, international organisations, NGOs, and representatives of Roma and Egyptian population in Montenegro.
The Seminar will be opened by Ms Marta Garcia-Fidalgo, coordinator for Roma integration policy in the Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations (DG NEAR), and Mr Suad Numanović, Minister for Human and Minority Rights at the Government of Montenegro.

This is the third seminar dedicated to the issues of Roma, and the previous ones were organised in 2011 and 2014.

Since then, significant steps forward have been made in this field, both on the European and the national level.

The significance of Roma and Egyptian integration was also emphasised in the European Commission’s 2015 Report on Montenegro, where Roma and Egyptian inclusion was recognised as one of the key issues and fundamental rights in the candidate countries.

At this Seminar, special attention will be paid to the issues of Roma and Egyptian integration in Montenegro, and the upcoming challenges in the five key fields: education, employment, health, housing and anti-discrimination.
Furthermore, they will discuss tangible achievements of Montenegro and what will need to be implemented in the future.
Holding of three panels was planned, on the following topics:“Updating implementation of conclusions from the Seminar on Roma held in 2014 and Action Plan for Chapter 23 - Items relating to Roma”, “Presentation of the state of Roma integration in Montenegro by Roma community and local authorities”, and “Presentation of the Action Plan for Implementation of the Strategy for Social Inclusion of Roma and Egyptians in Montenegro 2016-2020”.
In the afternoon, there will be work in working groups in which they will consider five key fields in integration of the Roma and Egyptian population.
On the occasion of this event, there will be an exhibition of photographs and handcrafted works of Roma artists.
