At the meeting with the Chairman of the Foreign and European Affairs, Defence, Development Cooperation and Immigration Committee, Mr Marc Angel and members of the Committee, the first of the meetings of this kind at the level of two working bodies of parliaments of Montenegro and Luxembourg, mutual experiences in the field of international relations and parliamentary cooperation were exchanged, as well as the of the organization and ways of working within parliaments. Both sides noted good political relations and cooperation between the two countries, special contribution to which was numerous emigrant community in Montenegro, which was well integrated into the Luxembourg society.
Luxembourg side expressed its full support for the Euro-Atlantic aspirations of Montenegro and extended words of encouragement for the successful continuation of the ongoing reforms. An invitation for a return visit to our country was accepted and readiness for further development and improvement of the parliamentary cooperation expressed, in particular for the transfer of experience within the parliamentary activities. Interlocutors also discussed the modalities of achieving regional parliamentary initiatives.
The President of the Parliament of Luxembourg, Mr Mars Di Bartolomeo stressed the importance of parliamentary diplomacy as an important means of developing good relations and cooperation among countries. He expressed satisfaction with the progress of Montenegro's EU and NATO integration, specifically inquiring on certain issues, such as freedom of media, noting that represented the maturation process, particular for countries in the process of accession to the European Union. He also expressed his belief that Montenegro would successfully continue its path towards full membership in the EU and NATO.
At the meeting with the Chairman and members of the State Council, Mr Victor Gillen, and members of this advisory body, the history of the State Council was presented, the principle of work and the level of its independence as opposed to the parliament and other state institutions. The State Council is a highly professional body that gives opinions on all proposals for laws before they enter the parliamentary procedure. It is composed of 21 members, of which 11 are doctors of jurisprudence, appointed by the Grand Duke. There is a high degree of independence in the work of this body, whose opinions are not binding but are generally respected.
The delegation of the Committee on International Relations and Emigrants is composed of members Mr Mićo Orlandić, Mr Koča Pavlović, assistant to the Committee, Mr Blagota Marunović, and the meetings were attended by the Minister-Counsellor at the Embassy of Montenegro in Brussels, Ms Tatjana Raspopović.
In front of the Parliament of Luxembourg, during the visit of the delegation, nest to the EU flag and the flag of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, the Montenegrin flag was displayed, in honor of the Montenegrin delegation.
