Representatives of the Committee on Political System, Judiciary and Administration Ms Azra Jasavić and Mr Husnija Šabović participated in the Joint Meeting of the European Parliament and national parliaments titled "Future Priorities in the Field of Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs", held in the European Parliament, Brussels, on 19 March.
The meeting was opened by Mr Juan Fernando Lopez Aguilar, Chair of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) of the European Parliament and Mr Kyriakos Virvidakis, Chair of the Standing Committee on Public Administration, Public Order and Justice of the Hellenic Parliament.
Topics of the first session included: Developing an EU Internal Security Strategy, enhancing police cooperation and future of the Europol. The following spoke on these topics: Mr Agustín Díaz De Mera Garcia-Consuegra, MP, Rapporteur on the Europol draft Regulation, Mr Juan Ramón Represa Fernandez, Deputy Chair of the Justice Committee in the Spanish Senate, Rapporteur of the reasoned opinion on the Europol Regulation and Rob Wainwright, Director of the EUROPOL. The second session of the meeting was marked by discussion on topic “Developing the EU's immigration and asylum policy”, and the following took part in the debate: Mr Miltiadis Varvitsiotis, Minister of Mercantile Marine of the Hellenic Republic, Mr Carlos Coehlo, MEP, Rapporteur on the draft Regulation establishing rules for the surveillance of the external sea borders in the context of operational cooperation coordinated by Frontex at the External Borders of the Members States and Mr Eugenio Ambrosi, International Organisation for Migration. Following the competition of the debate within the second session Ms Viviane Reding, Vice President of the European Commission, presented proposals for the post-Stockholm period in the area of justice, while Cecilia Malmström, Commissioner in charge of Home Affairs, presented proposals for the post-Stockholm period in the area ofhome affairs.
Within the session dedicated to Fundamental rights for EU citizens in the digital era and reinforcing data protection and shielding EU citizens against electronic mass surveillance, the following spoke: Mr Jan Albrecht, MEP and Rapporteur on the draft data protection Regulation, Mr Claude Moraes, MEP and Rapporteur of the LIBE Inquiry on "Electronic mass surveillance of EU citizens" as well as Mr Karl Sigfrid, Member of the Committee on the Constitution of the Swedish Riksdagen.
The fourth session of the Joint Meeting of the European Parliament and national parliaments dealt with topics such as Developing a criminal justice area under the Lisbon Treaty - Focus on the European Public Prosecutor's Office and judicial cooperation instruments in criminal matters. The panellists were: Mr Salvatore Iacolino, MEP, Rapporteur on the draft EPPO Regulation, Ms Sarah Ludford, MEP, Rapporteur on the review of the European Arrest Warrant (legislative initiative) and Mr Nicolae-Ciprian Nica, Deputy Chair of the Committee for Legal Matters, Discipline and Immunities of the Romanian Chamber of Deputies.
MP Azra Jasavić participated in the session devoted to Developing the EU's immigration and asylum policy and in the part of the meeting devoted to European Public Prosecutor's Office.
At the end of each session, a debate with national parliamentarians and MEPs was held, while one-day long meeting ended with short revision of conclusions by Mr Juana Fernanda Lopez Aguilara and Mr Kyriakos Virvidakisa, who were keynote speakers at the meeting in the European Parliament.
