At the meeting, they exchanged views on current issues related to media freedom in Montenegro. Dunja Mijatović indicated that a big step was made forward in terms of legislation in this matter, but that attention should be directed to better and more effective implementation of the law. She expressed the readiness of the OSCE as well to provide advice through the development of comparative analysis or expert opinion in relation to matters that might be subject of future legislative initiatives.
Andrey Rikhter, the Chief of Cabinet, presented the comparative experiences regarding sanctions concerning libel and defamation, giving suggestions that would be useful in further implementation.
Chairman of the Committee, Rifat Rastoder, pointed to the fact that the Committee on Political System and Judicial Administration, as a working body in charge of reviewing legislation related to specific topics, could provide for the ability to enhance and improve the legal framework, as well as continuous application of control mechanisms made available with the Rules of Procedure of the Parliament of Montenegro.
Deputy to the Chairman of the Committee, Snežana Jonica, emphasized the willingness of the Committee to contribute to clear definition of weak points in this area, within the scope of its competences, and then work on changing solutions that were not good, and continuously monitor the implementation of legislation that were - but their implementation was inadequate.
Ms Dunja Mijatović was accompanied by Mr Andrey Rikhter, chief of Cabinet, Mr Frane Maroević, Senior Adviser, Mr Valdemar Figaj, Deputy Head of the OSCE Mission to Montenegro and Ms Iva Šćepanović, associate, OSCE Mission to Montenegro.
The Committee on Political System and Judicial Administration was represented by Chairman of the Committee, Rifat Rastoder, Deputy to the Chairman of the Committee, Snežana Jonica and the service of the Committee.
