Within the expert mission for reviewing media freedoms carried out by the European Commission, the representatives of the Committee on Political System, Judiciary and Administration have met with Mr Jeremy McBride and Mr Steve Crawshaw, independent experts in the field of media freedom.
At the meeting, they exchanged views on current issues regarding media freedom in Montenegro, with special accent on the field of media reporting. On that occasion, the participants agreed that it was necessary to monitor implementation of the current legal regulations in this field, adding that certain legal solutions should be improved and specified in order to achieve harmonisation with the European standards.
Bearing in mind the fact that it was within the purview of the Committee on Political System, Judiciary and Administration to consider and monitor the subject matter, it was pointed out that the Committee, through implementation of control mechanisms provided by the Rules of Procedure of the Parliament of Montenegro, would organise a consultative debate, to which it would invite proposers and all competent experts in order to perform comprehensive analysis of situation in this field and propose the most effective solutions.
The experts were accompanied by Ms Angela Longo, representative of the European Commission, and Mr Nemanja Tepavčević, representative of the EU Delegation to Montenegro.
