22nd meeting of the Gender Equality Committee held

70 years of political participation of women in Montenegro celebrated



22nd meeting of the Gender Equality Committee, dedicated to 70th anniversary of political participation of women in Montenegro, on the occasion on 5th December 1943, the day of holding the Congress of Women's Antifascist Front of Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina, was attended by participants of the National Liberation War and membersof the Women's Antifascist Front: Ms Gospava Kovačević form Herceg Novi, Ms Bosa Mihajilović from Podgorica and Ms Milosava Strunjaš from Pljevlja. In her introductory statement, Chairperson of the Gender Equality Committee Ms Nada Drobnjak recalled the importance and role of the Women's Antifascist Front in the history of Montenegro as well as civilisation heritage which have resulted from the movement, emphasising that anti-fascist messages hadto be realised in order to create the society of equal, with no discrimination and with equal opportunities. Chairperson Drobnjak concluded that women from Women's Antifascist Front started to fight for equality, striving for ideals, but their testimonies demonstrate that even after seven decades the number of encouraged women was not sufficient, especially in the field of economics and that violence against women still existed in a significant measure. Member of the Gender Equality Committee Ms Branka Tanasijević reminded of the beginning of women’s fight for their rights, with a message to future generations that it was necessary to continue the fight for essential equality. However, the process is still on-going, she states. The 22nd meeting of the Gender Equality Committee of the Parliament of Montenegro was attended by the following: MPs, representatives of the Associations of the People's Liberation War of Yugoslavia (SUBNOR) and antifascist of Montenegro, coordinators for the gender equality, representatives of the civic sector, students as well as representatives of international organisations; iduring the meeting, the film on celebration of the 8 March 1945 In Cetinje  was screened, while the Proclamation of women from the 1940 and  the text from the posters used for calling women and girls to the Great Assembly 1939 were read.
