Gender Equality Committee and NGO Women's Safe House organise International Conference in Podgorica

24 - 25 November; Topic: “General and specialised services of assistance - guarantees of quality of service”

The Gender Equality Committee of the Parliament of Montenegro and the NGO Women's Safe House are organising the International Conference dedicated to implementation of the Council of Europe Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence, on the topic: “General and specialised services of assistance - guarantees of quality of service”. The Conference will be held in Podgorica, Hotel Ramada, on 24 - 25 November 2015, starting at 9:30.

The speakers at its opening include: Ms Nada Drobnjak, Chairperson of the Gender Equality Committee of the Parliament of Montenegro,  Ms Ljiljana Raičević, President of Women's Safe House, Ms Fiona McCluney, UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative for Montenegro, Kirsi Pekuri, Head of Political Section of the EU Delegation to Montenegro, and Ms Zorica Kovačević, Minister of Labour and Social Welfare.          

The Conference will be attended by parliamentarians, representatives of competent state institutions, and organisations dealing with protection and promotion of rights of women victims of violence from Montenegro, Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia, Austria, Macedonia, Turkey, Albania, and Kosovo.          

The Conference is organised with the project “Coordinated efforts - towards new European standards in protection of women against gender-based violence”, funded by the EU. The Conference was financially supported by TACSO (Technical Assistance for Civil Society Organisations) People2People component and UN Women.           

This Conference will be a strong platform for development and cooperation of organisations of the civil society with decision-makers, exchange of knowledge, experiences and information, and development of strong and long-term cooperation in the region.

It was envisaged to adopt the Podgorica Declaration against violence against women and domestic violence at the end of the Conference.
