Gender Equality Committee holds its 66th meeting

Four items of the agenda considered

At its 66th meeting held today, the Committee considered the 2015 Report on Implementation of the Strategy for improvement of position of Roma and Egyptians in Montenegro 2012-2016, and the Strategy for social inclusion of Roma and Egyptians in Montenegro 2016-2020 with 2016 Action Plan for implementation of the Strategy, which were adopted by the Government of Montenegro, and prepared by the Ministry of Human and Minority Rights.

The 2015 Report on Implementation of the Strategy for improvement of position of Roma and Egyptians in Montenegro 2012-2016, and the Strategy for social inclusion of Roma and Egyptians in Montenegro 2016-2020 with 2016 Action Plan for implementation of the Strategy was presented to members of the Committee by Head of Department for European Integration, Programming, and Implementation of the EU Funds at the Ministry for Human and Minority Rights Ms Tatjana Anđelić, and independent advisor at the Department for Promotion and Protection of Rights of Roma and Egyptians at the Ministry for Human and Minority Rights Mr Sokolj Beganaj.

Furthermore, within the programme of the public debate, the Committee considered the Draft Action Plan for the Implementation of the UN Security Council Resolution 1325 “Women, Peace and Security” in Montenegro (2016-2017), prepared by the Interinstitutional Working Group formed by the Ministry of Defence upon the initiative by the NGO “SPES”.

The Action Plan for the Implementation of the UN Security Council Resolution 1325 in Montenegro aims to include and develop key areas for implementation of the Resolution 1325 and the accompanying resolutions, and to increase participation of women in making decisions on all issues relating to peace and security, inclusion of gender perspective in prevention of conflicts and gender based violence, protection of women and girls and their rights in times of peace, as well as in zones of conflict, and integration of gender perspective and gender education in peacekeeping operations. So far, state institutions and NGOs have implemented activities regarding the Implementation of the UN Security Council Resolution 1325 “Women, Peace and Security” and the accompanying resolutions in Montenegro.

The Draft Action Plan for the Implementation of the UN Security Council Resolution 1325 “Women, Peace and Security” in Montenegro (2016-2017) was presented by the Coordinator for Gender Equality at the Ministry of Defence Ms Radmila Đakonović.

Within “current issues”, there was discussion on activities between the meetings, as well as on the upcoming activities.,
