Eighth meeting of the Gender Equality Committee held

Report on the state of human rights in Montenegro, with recommendations on the agenda

 

At the meeting held today, the Minister for Human and Minority Rights Mr Suad Numanović, PhD, informed the Committee on the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) on the state of human rights in Montenegro which was drafted in accordance with the guidelines of the Human Rights Council and contains an overview of the state of human rights in Montenegro and the progress achieved in the period between two review periods of UPR (2008–2012), with a special focus on implementation of recommendations of the first review period, as well as final consideration of the state of human rights in Montenegro. In January of this year, in Geneva, the Delegation of Montenegro presented the UPR within the second Universal Periodic Review of the state of human rights in the UN member states, and on 7th June offered additional responses to recommendations and comments of the states received during the presentation of the Review. The Minister informed the Committee that Montenegro accepted 121 out of 124 recommendations, which is a proof of its dedication to promotion and protection of human rights and freedoms. The final review for Montenegro was adopted on 7th June in Geneva, at the Human Rights Council meeting regarding the final consideration of the state of human rights in Montenegro. Additionally, Minister Numanović pointed out that Montenegro had been commended as the active new member of the Human Rights Council, with emphasis on the endeavours to prevent all types of discrimination, especially of vulnerable groups (persons with disabilities, women, children, RE etc.), judiciary reform, combating human trafficking and violence against women and children, and protecting the rights of LGBT persons, prevention of torture and providing sustainable solutions for refugees and displaced persons.
