The Chairperson of the Committee on Tourism, Agriculture, Ecology and Spatial Planning Mr Predrag Sekulić met the Head of Democratisation Department of the OSCE Mission to Montenegro Ms Lia Magnaguagno.

Opportunities for cooperation between the Committee and OSCE Mission to Montenegro in the field of protection of the environment were discussed during the meeting.

Chairperson Sekulić informed the Head Magnaguagno on competences and activities of the Committee on Tourism, Agriculture, Ecology and Spatial Planning. He emphasised the importance of the European integration process in the fields that the Committee has been monitoring and presented proposals for the future cooperation. He assessed as particularly important the significance of education and strenghtening citizens' counciousness on issues relating to the enviroment.  

Ms Magnaguagno presented activities that OSCE Mission has been providing in the field. The support relates to the following: creating and implementing legislative framework, providing expert help, including civil sector in activities aimed at improving the condition of environment as well as participation of public in the process of reaching decisions. She stressed the importance of Arhus Centre and School of Ecological Activism.

The participant agreed the future cooperation of the Committee and OSCE Mission to be based on sharing experiences with other parliaments’ committees, holding seminars and educational workshops, with the aim of strengthening capacities of the Parliament of Montenegro in order to be better prepared to answer the challenges resulting from the process of European integration.
