In addition to Committee members, the meeting was attended by: Advisor at the Ministry of Health Ms Jasna Sekulić, MD, representative of the Public Health Institute Ms Aleksandra Marijanović , MD and CAZAS Programme Manager Ms Sanja Šišović, all of whom took part in the discussion.
Committee Chairperson Mr Zoran Jelić said that the main purpose of celebrating World Aids Day was tackling discrimination and stigmatising of diseased as well as raising of awareness. It is known that for people with HIV it is more difficult to bear discrimination and stigma that the very physical component of the disease. He stressed that another purpose of celebrating was a warning of the public about the risks and dangers of HIV.
Ms Aleksandra Marijanović, MD, representative of the Public Health Institute said that since the beginning of the epidemics until today 153 persons infected with HIV (81 people - AIDS; 72 - HIV positive) were registered. 39 persons died from AIDS. The sex ratio men – women is 6.6 to 1 present. In Montenegro until 2013, 11 new cases have been registered. According to the data available to the Public Health Institute, there are 460 persons with HIV infection, in a population 15 to 49 years old.
The following MPs took part in the discussion: Mr Izet Bralić, Ms Zorica Kovačević, Mr Halil Duković, Mr Janko Vučinić, Mr Goran Tuponja, as well as Committee Chaiperson Mr Zoran Jelić. At the end of the meeting, it was emphasised that the meeting had educational character with a constructive debate.
