During previous days, citizens of Montenegro had an opportunity to hear via public media that, according to the ranking of health systems in the European countries, health care system of Montenegro has received low marks.
According to this year’s report of the Euro Health Consumer Index (EHCI), Montenegro is occupying last place on the list of 35 European health care systems.
The meeting of the Committee on Health, Labour and Social Welfare of the Parliament of Montenegro was attended by Mr Budimir Šegrt, Minister of Health, who said that the concerned Report had been drafted by a non-governmental organisation of the high rang in Europe. He said that he was not surprised by the data of the organisation, because potentials and characteristics of health care system in Montenegro were well-know, and that capacities of Montenegro’s health care system were - eighteen primary health care centre, seven general hospitals, three special hospitals, Clinical Centre of Montenegro, Public Health Institute, Blood Transfusion Institute, Montefarm and Health Insurance Fund.
During the discussion, members of the Committee on Health, Labour and Social Welfare spoke on advantages and disadvantages of the health care system of Montenegro and worldwide.
The meeting also discussed Zika virus and recommendations of the World Health Organization, and activities of the health care system of Montenegro in fighting this virus. Minister of Health Mr Budimir Šegrt stated that there was no risk that this kind of virus would occur in our country, but that given instructions and guidelines with regard to that should be followed.
